Six employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (March 15) pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $50,000 on behalf of 10 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the defendants, Cotex Int'l Communication Products Limited and Wong Siu Leung and Tsang Ying Kay trading as Tseuk Kiu Trading Co, did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA  $14,953.81 and $3,032.32, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other four defendants, Chan Sai Wah trading as Kam Fung Stationery Co. (Lok Fu), Frolic Cafˆm & Pub Limited, Yuen Cho Yau trading as Golden Peak Engineering Co and Wak Tai Farm Company Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA $24,025.32, $6,216, $4,667.16 and $1,131.46, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $96, $170, $160, $126, $130 and $66 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Wak Tai Farm Company Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to four counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $10,500.
