The Department of Health (DH) today (December 19) urged members of the public not to buy or take a proprietary Chinese medicine (pCm) called Kui Hua Chut Lee San Bird¡¦s Nest & Pearl of batch number WA00030, of which the microbial content was found to have exceeded the maximum permitted limit for PCM registration.
A DH spokesman said the manufacturer, Hong Kong Hui Chun Tang Zhong Yao Chang, was instructed to recall the product from market and to surrender them to DH.
"Members of the public who have purchased the batch of product are advised to stop using them, dispose of the product or surrender it to the Pharmaceutical Service of DH at 3/F, Public Health Laboratory Centre, 382 Nam Cheong Street, Kowloon during office hours," the spokesman said.
DH initiated the investigation upon receipt of a notification from the Macau health authority regarding the recall of two pCms produced by the same manufacturer. The recalled batches of the two pCms were not put on sale in Hong Kong. DH took samples of pCms concerned and the related products for testing and found that the total bacterial count of the above mentioned product exceeds the permitted limit. The total bacterial counts of all other samples are within limit.
The manufacturer voluntarily recalled other Chut Lee San and Kam Chik San products it marketed in Hong Kong.
Members of the public can call the manufacturer's hotline at 2695 8614 for matters related to recall of the product.
DH has also set up a telephone enquiry service at 2319 5119 for members of the public during office hours.
