The Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA) today (October 23) laid charges against Citizens・Radio and four men who were connected with an operation that OFTA had mounted on August 29, 2006, against suspected use and establishment of illegal radio equipment in Chai Wan.
:Citizens・ Radio and another man were charged with establishing means of telecommunications without a licence. Three other men were charged with using unlicensed radiocommunications apparatus. The maximum penalty for such offences, upon summary conviction, is $50,000 fine and two years・ imprisonment. They will appear in Eastern Magistrates・ Courts on November 17,; OFTA・s spokesperson said.
The operation on August 29 was mounted by OFTA against the suspected use and establishment of unlicensed radio equipment by the Citizens・ Radio for broadcasting purpose.
Cases related to suspected use and establishment of unlicensed radio apparatus on October 4, 13 and 18, 2006, are still under investigation.
