****************************************************

The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose SK Lee, visited Tuen Mun this afternoon (October 5) to learn more about its law and order situation and various issues of concern to residents.

During his visit to Stewards Ma Kam Ming Charitable Foundation Ma Ko Pan Memorial College, Mr Lee was briefed by the Police District Commander (Tuen Mun), Mr David Ng, and the principal of the college, Mr Chan Ka-yan, on an internet-based network to enhance communication among the Police and schools.

The network, the first of its kind in the territory, is an initiative introduced by the Police and Lingnan University's Information Technology Services Centre to disseminate information about crime prevention and youth activities.

Mr Lee was told that the network provided a fast, convenient and efficient communication platform for the Police, school principals, discipline masters and students. An anti-crime interactive quiz will soon be introduced to further enrich the content of the network.

"It is encouraging to see that the communication network has been welcomed by students, with a record 11,000 visits since its inception in June last year," Mr Lee said.

Mr Lee then joined an anti-crime focus group gathering between the Police and students, and presented prizes to winners of a quiz on computer-related crimes.

He then proceeded to the Hong Kong YWCA Jockey Club Butterfly Bay Integrated Social Service Centre at Butterfly Estate where he chatted with social workers and service users to learn about their services and concerns.

Mr Lee was pleased to learn that the centre provided core services to young people, including guidance, counselling; support services for young people and children at risk; socialisation; fostering of civic-mindedness and skill development.

Earlier, Mr Lee went to a Fu Tai Estate rooftop for a panoramic view of the Deep Bay Link project in Tuen Mun. He was briefed on the latest progress of the project as well as local traffic and transport concerns.

The Secretary was accompanied by the Tuen Mun District Officer, Mr Stephen Chung, during the visit.
