Government statement on Passing of Dr Raymond Wu

    The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government issued the following statement today (October 3):

     "We are sad to learn of the passing of Dr Raymond Wu Wai Yung and offer our deepest condolences to Mrs Wu and his family members. Dr Wu will always be remembered for his kindness and selfless devotion to the service of the needy in our community.

     Dr Wu had served Hong Kong in various official capacities for more than 20 years. He was a member of the Hospital Authority from 1997 to 2005 and the Chairman of the Community Investment and Inclusion Fund Committee since its establishment in 2002.
 
     Before the handover, Dr Wu had been a member of the Basic Law Drafting Committee, the Basic Law Consultative Committee and the Preparatory Committee for the HKSAR.  Since the handover, he had been a member of the Basic Law Committee.  Over the years, Dr Wu had made considerable contribution to the smooth transition of Hong Kong and the implementation of the Basic Law and 'One Country Two Systems'. He was a Deputy to the Ninth and Tenth National People's Congress."
