Haven of Hope Hospital Norovirus cases update

    Regarding a geriatric and rehabilitation ward in Haven of Hope Hospital (HHH) in which there were four patients and a staff with diarrhoea or vomiting symptoms recently, the hospital today (October 3) announced the following update:

     One more female staff in the same ward has presented with diarrhoea symptoms, and she is currently on sick leave.  Among the four patients presented with the symptoms, one of them died yesterday due to her own serious illness.  The rest of the patients are in stable condition.  The test result of one of the patients was positive to Norovirus.  The staff member who had earlier suffered from diarrhoea symptoms has recovered and resumed duty today.

     Infection control measures of the ward concerned have been enhanced, thorough cleaning and disinfection have been carried out in the ward.  There will be no admission to and discharge from the concerned ward for the time being, visiting is also suspended. All other patients in the concerned ward are under close medical surveillance.
 
     The cases have been reported to Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
