The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) today (September 28) appealed to the public to keep LCSD venues clean and tidy when celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.
An LCSD spokesman stressed that the department would adopt a zero-tolerance approach to anyone littering or burning wax in LCSD venues.
He warned that littering offenders would be issued with fixed-penalty tickets of $1,500 each.
"Members of the public should pack up their rubbish for proper disposal into litter bins," he said.
Under the Pleasure Grounds Regulation, melting or burning wax, or sprinkling or pouring liquid onto hot wax at LCSD venues, which is likely to injure someone or damage property, is prohibited.
"An offender is liable to a maximum fine of $2,000 and 14 days' imprisonment upon conviction," the spokesman said.
The LCSD will step up patrols in LCSD venues including parks, public beaches and barbecue sites. On each night from October 5 to 7, around 1,000 staff will be deployed to take enforcement action against offenders.
He reminded people to place metal cans or non-flammable containers under lit candles to collect melted wax for easy disposal into litter bins.
The public can report wax burning cases at LCSD venues by dialing the hotline, 2414 5555, which will operate from 7pm to midnight on October 5, 6 and 7.
"Upon receiving any complaint, we will immediately deploy our staff to the scene to take appropriate enforcement action," the spokesman said.
