Government welcomes developers' initiatives to improve self-regulatory regime
*******************************************************

The Government will welcome any concrete measures adopted by the Real Estate Developers Association of Hong Kong to further enhance the operation and effectiveness of the self-regulatory regime on the sale of uncompleted residential units.

"We will monitor closely the association's discussion and implementation of the work of its internal Compliance Committee and related matters," a spokesman for the Housing, Planning and Lands Bureau said today (September 25).

"In conjunction with the Consumer Council and the Estate Agents Authority, we will continue to have regular dialogue with the association and ,if necessary, to identify scope for further improvement to the self-regulatory regime," he said.

The spokesman said the Government would not rule out the possibility of taking more stringent steps to improve sale arrangements for uncompleted residential units, including the option of legislative control should the association's new measures prove to be inadequate or ineffective for achieving the expected results.
