The Labour Department and the Employees Retraining Board (ERB) will jointly hold a two-day job fair "Retraining and Recruitment Post 2006" from Wednesday (September 27), offering more than 7,000 vacancies and the latest information on employment and retraining.
The event will be held at Stars Atrium, Level 1, Plaza Hollywood, Diamond Hill, from 11am to 6.30pm. Admission is free.
A total of 74 companies from different trades and industries, including property management, catering, retail, telecommunication, banking and financial services, will offer vacancies for on-the-spot application. Thirty-seven companies will take part in the fair each day.
The vacancies offered include managerial posts such as shop manager, restaurant manager, security officer; frontline posts such as customer service officer, salesperson, waiter, security guards, bank teller; and professional/technical positions such as engineer, chef, maintenance technician, software designer, aircraft maintenance craftsman trainee; and other vacancies like clerk, beautician, accounting clerk, cashier, care taker and cleaner.
More than 80% of the vacancies are full-time jobs. Most of them offer a monthly salary ranging from $5,000 to $11,000. More than 90% of the vacancies require Form 5 educational level or below and more than 50% of the vacancies are open to job-seekers without relevant experience.
Job-seekers can submit applications on the spot and may be selected for on-site interviews.
The ERB will collaborate with 10 training institutes to give information on retraining courses and accept on-the-spot application for the courses.
A booth on "Aptitude Test for Job Searching" will be set up at the venue with employment counselors to provide professional advice to job-seekers on job searching.
