Visual Arts Centre launches new Artist in Residence Programme
****************************************************

To further its support of Hong Kong art, the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre has organised a new series of the Artist in Residence Programme, inviting participation of the award-winning artists of the ¡§Hong Kong Art Biennial 2005¡¨, including Fung Yat-fung, Zheng Bo, Cedric Maridet and Ching Chin-wai.

Each participating artist has been invited to stay in the Visual Arts Centre for three months and to use the centre¡¦s studio facilities. The artists conduct talks, demonstrations and workshops in return, encouraging a sharing of experience between artists and the public. The Visual Arts Centre also organises a 10-day exhibition to display the works of the artists during the residence as well as the works of the students from the workshops.

The first exhibition organised under this programme -- ¡§Traces of Tranquility¡VThe Calligraphy of Fung Yat-fung¡¨ opened today (September 15) at the Visual Arts Centre and will run until September 25. It displays Fung Yat-fung¡¦s prized work ¡§Ode of Hai Ou¡¨ and his latest version of ¡§Shupu¡¨, as well as 20 other works in clerical, running and cursive styles. The ¡§Sound Installation by Cedric Maridet¡¨ exhibition will be held from November 10 to 20. Activities and an exhibition by Ching Chin-wai will be held in January and May next year respectively.
