Ceramic artists have been invited to submit works of teaware or tea-drinking ware in an open competition organised by the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware.
The competition of "2007 Tea Ware by Hong Kong Potters" is to promote ceramic art and tea drinking culture in Hong Kong. Works submitted should be functional as well as creative and can be in the form of teapot, teacup, cup stand, saucer, slop bowl, water boiler, ewer, tea caddy and fresh water jar, etc. They can be made and designed for brewing and preparation of different types of tea.
Entries should be original ceramic creations hand-made by the entrants within two years from the date of entry. The submitted works should not be awarded previously by any institution or organisation, nor have been donated or sold to any person, company, institution or organisation. Each entrant may submit a maximum of four works which can be a single item or a set.
Judging criteria includes originality, creativity, technical competence and functionality. Prizes of $16,000, $12,000 and $10,000 will be awarded respectively to the winners of the first, second and third prizes whereas $2,000 will go to the winners as Prize of Excellence.
Three new prizes including Promising Award, Creative Award and Outstanding Workmanship Award have been added to this yearˇ¦s competition. These awards will be presented to entrants whose works have never been shortlisted for the past competition and exhibition of Tea Ware by Hong Kong Potters, or whose works represent exquisite qualities and essence of creative design or workmanship of tea-ware making. A prize of $10,000 will be awarded to each winner.
The award winners will also be presented with a certificate. The winning artworks will be presented at the Museum of Tea Ware next May.
Entry forms are now available at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware, and Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre and can be downloaded from the Museum of Art's website: http://hk.art.musuem/. Entries should be sent, together with the completed entry forms, to the Museum of Tea Ware, 10 Cotton Tree Drive, Central between November 18 and 19.
