The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) today (September 8) reminded meat stall operators that the sale of fresh and chilled meat on the same premises was prohibited unless they were licensed to do so and the chilled meat was pre-packaged.
The reminder came after a recent blitz operation in Tsuen Wan, in which the operator of a market stall in Yeung Uk Road Market (stall no. M140) was prosecuted for selling fresh pork and unpackaged chilled pork on the same premises, breaching the Food Business Regulation.
The spokesman warned meat stall operators to observe the regulation, adding that offenders, upon conviction, were liable to a maximum fine of $50,000 and six months' imprisonment.
The operator of the Yeung Uk Road Market stall may also have his tenancy agreement terminated for breaching the agreement condition that prohibits the sale of chilled meat as fresh meat.
