Seven employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 8) obtained two orders for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at around $180,000 against two employers in the District Court.  Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued five claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $77,000 on behalf of 22 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     The District Court today issued judgments against two employers, namely, Wah Tai Farm Company Limited and Sun Yip Engineering Limited. The defendants were ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $95,327.54 and $85,282.8, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 82 and 3 employees of the defendants respectively.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Goodtimes Trading Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $32,569.22, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharge payable.

     The other four defendants, including Pravoli International Limited, Top Chance Engineering Limited, Dickson Construction (Maintenance) Limited and Offshore2online (Hong Kong) Limited, did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $24,434.57, $13,928.3, $6,510.13 and $187.62, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees¡¦ MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal respectively further awarded payments of $930 for District Court cases and $120, $400, $260, $340 and $460 as the costs in respect of the claims.
