SJ to visit US

    The Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, will visit Washington, DC, New York and San Francisco in the United States from September 10 and 18.

     In Washington, DC, Mr Wong will call on the Attorney General of the United States, Mr Alberto Gonzales; Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Antonin Scalia; the Under Secretary, Democracy and Global Affairs, Department of State, Ms Paula Dobriansky; and the Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong.

     He will also attend a lunch hosted by the Brookings Institution, give a speech at the Georgetown University Law Center and speak to representatives from US Administration, think-tanks, academia, the legal profession and the business sector at a dinner hosted by the Hong Kong Commissioner for Economic and Trade Affairs in the US.

     In New York, Mr Wong will address a luncheon hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the Hong Kong Association of New York, the New York City Bar Association and the American Foreign Law Association. He will also attend a seminar at Columbia University and meet members of the Human Rights Watch.

     Mr Wong will also call on the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations, Ambassador Wang Guangya and the Chinese Consul General in New York, Ambassador Liu Biwei.

     In San Francisco, Mr Wong will meet members of the Bar Association of San Francisco and address a luncheon organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office and the Hong Kong Association of Northern California.

    He will also call on the Chinese Consul General in San Francisco, Ambassador Peng Keyu, speak at a seminar at the School of Law, University of California, Berkeley and officiate at a reception celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco.
