The winning design of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco's 20th anniversary logo design competition was unveiled today (September 6, San Francisco time).
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco organised a logo design competition. The response was positive and many entries were professionally done with detailed artwork. After careful consideration, the design by Mr Albert Chui was chosen as the winning logo.
Ms Doris Cheung, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, San Francisco, congratulated Mr Chui at the prize presentation ceremony today. "The reasons for choosing this logo are two-fold. It clearly spells out the 20th anniversary and the Golden Gate Bridge signifies our presence here in San Francisco and our role as a bridge between Hong Kong and the western United States," said Ms Cheung.
Mr Chui is a professional designer in the Bay Area. He was born and raised in Hong Kong and is glad that he can play a part in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco.
He said he learnt a lot about the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office after conducting background research to design the logo.
Commenting on his design, Mr Chui said, "I played up the number 20 as it is the theme of the logo. The bridge represents the role of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, which connects the businesses and trade between Hong Kong and the western part of the United States. The Golden Gate Bridge represents San Francisco and the flowing water represents Hong Kong, a vibrant city, full of energy."
The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco has come a long way in building the business relationship and enhancing cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and western United States.
In addition to the logo competition, the office will hold a series of activities to celebrate the occasion. The Secretary for Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Wong Yan Lung, will be the guest of honour at the cocktail reception to mark the anniversary. He will also speak on the topic, "Hong Kong's Legal System and Services - Your Gateway to China", at a business luncheon on September 18, according to Ms Cheung.
On September 21, a business seminar will be held at Santa Clara Marriott on how Silicon Valley companies are reaping the benefits of doing business in Hong Kong, aided by its unique relationship with Mainland China. Mr Mike Rowse, Director-General of Invest Hong Kong, Mr Carlos Genardini, CEO of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and Mr Nick Yang, CEO of Cyperport Management Company will be in town to join the CEOs of Silicon Valley companies to speak on the topic, "Hong Kong: Today's advantages for your tomorrow in China". It will be followed by a gala dinner. Mr John Chen, Chairman, CEO and President of Sybase, Inc. will be the keynote speaker at the gala dinner.
