The following is issued on behalf of the Office of Dr Margaret Chan:
Dr Margaret Chan, nominated by the People's Republic of China for the Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), released her election manifesto today (September 5) and will shortly launch her webpage under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China's website.
In her manifesto, entitled Attaining Results for Health, Dr Chan emphasised that WHO had the mandate, experience and authority to do great good in the world, and could attain impressive results for health provided that all positive forces could be harnessed under strong leadership. She has also identified her six priorities areas if elected to the top post, including development, security, capacity, information and knowledge, partnerships and performance.
