Unsatisfactory mushrooms not supplied to HK
*******************************************

Following contacts with the relevant Mainland authorities, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department's Centre for Food Safety (CFS) today (September 5) learned that Mainland mushrooms exported to Japan and suspected to contain excessive pesticide residue were not supplied to Hong Kong.

A CFS spokesman said that food exported from the Mainland to Hong Kong was subject to the monitoring of the relevant Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau.

More than 30 samples of mushrooms were tested for pesticide residue last year and in the first quarter of this year. The results were all satisfactory.
