Hong Kong pianist Jimmy Chiang and his teacher, renowned Austrian pianist Krassimira Jordan will team up with the Pan Asia orchestra to give two concerts in October.
Presented by the Leisure & Cultural Services Department, the concerts will be staged at 8pm on October 13 at the Auditorium of Sha Tin Town Hall and at 8pm on October 15 at the Auditorium of Tuen Mun Town Hall. The programme includes "Overture Don Giovanni", "Piano Concerto No. 9 in E-flat, K271" and "Concerto No. 10 in E-flat for Two Pianos, K365".
Jimmy Chiang earned his Bachelor's Degree in Music at Baylor University where he studied with Krassimira Jordan in 2000. The Golden Key International Honor Society named him "Performing Arts Showcase Winner" in the same year. He was the recipient of the "Barenreiter Urtext Preis" at the 3rd International Competition for Young Choir Directors in Vienna in 2004.
Chiang has performed as a soloist with orchestras such as Baylor Concert Orchestra and Ensemble Amadeus, of which he is the founder. He has appeared as guest conductor with the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and made his debut as opera conductor at the Schlos Theater Schonbrunn in Vienna in 2004. He is currently a graduate student at the University of Music and Performing Arts of Vienna.
Austrian pianist Krassimira Jordan's music talents were appreciated when she was still very young. During her years of study, a series of prestigious international prizes were awarded to her, including the International Piano Competitions "Alfredo Casella," and "Alessandro Casagrande", as well as the Mozart "Clara Haskil" Prize. As a representative of Austria, Krassimira Jordan was the Gold Medal winner of the Rio de Janeiro International Piano Competition. She was professor of piano at the world-renowned Vienna Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts from 1979 to 1990. Her students have won many important awards in competitions.
The Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra, founded by Dr Yip Wai-hong, promotes music among the general public especially Hong Kong's younger generation. Internationally famous conductors and soloists have been invited to perform with it. By using popular music and organising concert talks, the orchestra has successfully introduced serious music and Chinese orchestral music to the public, and at the same time, brought about an awareness of the indigenous culture of the people.
Concert tickets priced at $60, $80 and $110 are now available at URBTIX outlets, while senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients may have 50% off (limited quotas for students and CSSA recipients on a first-come, first-served basis). A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues.
