The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on Review of Public Service Broadcasting:
The Committee on Review of Public Service Broadcasting will convene a town hall meeting on September 30, 2006 (Saturday) to listen to public views on public service broadcasting in Hong Kong.
The meeting, conducted in Cantonese, will be held from 2.30pm to 5pm at Wei Hing Theatre, 6/F Amenities Building, City University of Hong Kong. Professor Richard M W Ho will be the moderator.
"The committee sincerely invites people to attend the meeting," committee chairman Mr Raymond R Wong said. "We would like to receive the views and input of the general public on all aspects of public service broadcasting to ensure that our recommendations will meet the needs and expectations of the local community."
At the meeting, the committee will also present the broad findings of the three focus groups set up to explore the governance structure, accountability measures and funding arrangements for public service broadcasting in Hong Kong.
"Members of the focus groups are drawn from the broadcasting, culture, performing arts, academic, professional and social services sectors. They have broadened our pool of expertise, and helped ensure that the public service broadcasting arrangements we propose are genuinely home-grown and tailor made to serve specifically the Hong Kong audience," Mr Wong added.
Over the past few months, the committee has met many organisations and individuals to hear their views, and received more than 120 written submissions. An international conference on public service broadcasting was held in June to deepen understanding of arrangements in other parts of the world.
Registration for the meeting is free of charge, and can be made online at the committee's website at www.psb.org.hk; by fax (3115 1334) or by phone (2594 0460). Seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
