Siu Lam Hospital Norovirus cases udpate
***************************************

Following the earlier announcement by Siu Lam Hospital (SLH) on a ward for the severely handicapped in which there were patients with vomiting and diarrhoea symptoms, the hospital announced the following updates today (August 24):

Today there is one more female patient (aged 45) in the same ward with vomiting and diarrhoea. The patient has been transferred to the isolation ward of Tuen Mun Hospital for further management and is now in a stable condition. Since August 21, there have been five patients and one staff member presenting with the above symptoms. Three patients tested positive for Norovirus. Laboratory investigation and the results for the rest of the patients are pending. The staff member has recovered and resumed duty.

Admission to and discharge from the ward concerned have been suspended, while visiting is not allowed on the ward. Families of the patients concerned have been informed. Infection control measures have been stepped up on the wards and all patients are under close medical surveillance.

SLH has reported the cases to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
