The LegCo Panel on Environmental Affairs Delegation arrived in Japan for duty visit (with photos)

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     The delegation of the Legislative Council Panel on Environmental Affairs arrived in Tokyo on Tuesday (August 22) to begin its 11-day visit to Japan, Denmark and Finland to acquire first-hand information on the latest development in these countries on the avoidance and mitigation of environmental pollution in respect of waste management, air pollution control and water quality management.

     Members of the delegation received a briefing on August 23 by representatives of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) on measures adopted by TMG to tackle air pollution, reduce global warming and manage municipal solid waste.  They also visited the Ariake Incineration Plant; the TMG Assembly Hall where vegetation was planted to lower the surface temperature of the building; and the super eco town project run by the Recycle Peer Company which handled unsorted construction waste.

     The delegation attended a dinner hosted by the Principal Representative of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo) on August 23 and met with members of the Japan Hong Kong Parliamentarians League.

     The delegation will visit the Asahi Environment Center on August 24 before departing for Sapporo to observe the operation of the Sapporo Recycling Complex on August 25.

     The delegation comprises five members, including Hon Choy So-yuk, Panel Chairman and delegation leader; Hon Emily Lau Wai-hing, Deputy Chairman of the Panel; Hon Lau Kong-wah; Hon Lee Wing-tat (only joins the delegation for the visit in Denmark and Finland); and Hon Tam Yiu-chung (a non-panel member who joins the delegation for the visit in Japan only).
