Special traffic and transport arrangements for tram track renewal works (with map)

    The Transport Department today (August 24) announced that Hong Kong Tramways would carry out tram track renewal works at the junction of Morrison Hill Road and Wan Chai Road from 8pm on Saturday ( August 26) to 8am on Sunday (August 27).

     To facilitate the works, special traffic and public transport arrangements will be implemented.  The department reminded people that the actual commencement time of road closures and traffic diversion may be advanced depends on the preparatory works on site.

1.Road closures and traffic diversion
     From 8pm Saturday to 8am the following day, Wan Chai Road eastbound between Tak Yan Street and Chan Tong Lane; and Morrison Hill Road southbound between Leighton Road and Sharp Street West will be closed. Vehicles on Wan Chai Road eastbound heading for Morrison Hill Road/Sharp Street West will be diverted via Tak Yan Street, Oi Kwan Road and Morrison Hill Road northbound. Motorists are advised to pay attention to the traffic signs and directions of the Police.

2.Bus route and GMB service diversion
     From 7pm Saturday to 8am the following day, 14 bus routes and three GMB routes which operate along the affected roads will be temporarily diverted.  Public transport operators will put up notices to inform passengers of the special arrangements.

3.Tram service
     From 6pm Saturday to 7am the following day, tram service from Shau Kei Wan/Kennedy Town to Happy Valley will be suspended. From 7pm Saturday to 8am the following day, tram services from Happy Valley will be suspended.

     People who want to go to the affected areas are advised to use public transport and avoid driving into the areas. In case of traffic congestion, people are asked to remain tolerant and patient, and follow the instructions of the Police officers at site. Please also pay attention to the latest traffic news broadcast by TV and radio stations.
