S for S inspects immigration clearance systems in Singapore (with photo)

    The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee, today (August 15, Singapore time) inspected Singapore's passenger and vehicle clearance systems at its border with West Malaysia.

     On the second day of his visit to Singapore, Mr Lee went to the Woodlands Checkpoint which serves travellers making trips to and from West Malaysia by road.

     He was told that on average more than 230,000 travellers passed through the checkpoint everyday, making it one of the busiest land checkpoints in the world.

     Mr Lee later visited the Singapore Internal Security Department and was briefed on the Singapore Government's efforts and initiatives to tackle terrorism and other security threats.

     Mr Lee will conclude his visit in Singapore and return to Hong Kong tomorrow night (August 16).
