Free advice for prospective candidates in EC Subsector Elections

    The following is issued on behalf of the Electoral Affairs Commission:

     Those intending to run in the Election Committee Subsector Elections on December 10, 2006, can apply from today (August 11) for free advice on their qualifications for nomination as candidates.

     Senior Counsel Mr Wong Ching-yue and barristers Mr Ho Bing-kwan, Mr Kevin Chan and Mr Lui Kit-ling have each been appointed by the Electoral Affairs Commission as the Nominations Advisory Committee (NAC) to provide this service. Their appointment was published in the Gazette today.

     The nomination period for the Election Committee Subsector Elections will run from November 1 to November 8.

     "Prospective candidates can use the NAC service to seek advice on their eligibility before proceeding with their electioneering activities," a spokesman for the Electoral Affairs Commission said.

     The free advisory service is also available to designated bodies of the Religious Subsector that will nominate 40 members to join the Election Committee, and the prospective nominees.  

     Applications in specified forms must reach the Chief Electoral Officer at 7/F Cornwall House, Taikoo Place, 979 King¡¦s Road, Quarry Bay by October 31. Applications can also be made by post or fax (3107 0174).

     Application forms are available at District Offices, and the Registration and Electoral Office (7/F Cornwall House, Taikoo Place, 979 King's Road, Quarry Bay; 10/F Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai; and 10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai).  Enquiries may be made on 2891 1001.
