Appointments/re-appointments to the Air Transport Licensing Authority

    The Government today (August 11) announced the appointment of a new chairman, the re-appointment of two current members and the appointment of three new members to the Air Transport Licensing Authority (ATLA):

Members
Ms Vivien Chan, JP
Prof. Michael Fung Ka-yiu
Mrs Fanny Lai Ip Po-ping, JP (re-appointment)
Mr Ma Ho-fai, JP (re-appointment)
Mr Philco Wong Nai-keung

     Mrs Fanny Lai Ip Po-ping, JP is re-appointed for one year from August 1, 2006 whereas the chairman and all other members are appointed/re-appointed for two years from the same date.

     A Government spokesman said: "We are delighted that the new chairman, the two incumbent members and the three new members have accepted the appointments and re-appointments respectively.  We are confident that the team of new and serving members, with their expertise and background in different sectors, will provide valuable contributions to the work of ATLA in ensuring the most effective air service to the public."

     "We are also grateful for the enormous contributions to ATLA's work that the outgoing chairman, Mr Ronny F H Wong, SC, JP and other retiring members, Mr Albert Cheung Chung Hoi, Professor Japhet Sebastian Law and Mr Almon Poon Chin-hung, JP, have made," the spokesman added.

     ATLA is an independent statutory body established under the Air Transport (Licensing of Air Services) Regulations, Cap. 448A.  The Licensing Authority is responsible for considering and granting licence to Hong Kong airlines which would like to operate scheduled services to and from Hong Kong in accordance with the provisions of the said Regulations.

     The appointments are published in the Government Gazette today.
