Chapter 11 of Hong Kong Planning Standards and Guidelines (HKPSG) on urban design guidelines have been expanded to incorporate guidelines on air ventilation, the Planning Department announced today (August 7).
The guidelines were based on recommendations of the "Feasibility Study for Establishment of Air Ventilation Assessment System" completed by the Government last year.
"For enhanced and long-term improvement of the wind environment here, it is important to optimise urban design for more wind penetration through the city fabric, especially the public areas," a department spokesman said.
The expanded chapter provides guidelines for reference during planning and design stages of projects for the purpose of improving air ventilation at district and site levels.
Reference to an advisory framework for the methodology to undertake air ventilation assessment for developments in Hong Kong is also highlighted in the chapter.
The HKPSG, which sets out the guidelines and criteria for determining the scale, location and site requirements of various land uses, is applied in planning studies, preparation and revision of town plans and development control.
The revised chapter can be seen at the Planning Department's homepage at http://www.pland.gov.hk.
