Public reminded to keep clean during Yue Lan Festival
*****************************************************

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has reminded people to keep the environment clean and observe fire safety measures when burning joss paper and incense during the Yue Lan Festival next Monday (August 7).

"They should bring along metal containers for burning incense, joss paper and sacrificial offerings."

"They are also required to clean up the spots before leaving," a department spokesman said today (August 2).

He said leaving ashes or burning offerings behind on the street not only created a dirty environment, but also posed fire hazards.

"Any person who leaves refuse (including ashes or incense) in a public place commits a littering offence which carries a fixed penalty of $1 500," he warned.
