*************************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 1) pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $13,000 on behalf of three employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, HKB2B Limited did not dispute the amount claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $13,211.89, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other defendant, Utec Limited, did not appear at today's hearing.  In it absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $211.69, being mandatory contribution in arrears and surcharge payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payments of $220 and $250 as the costs in respect of the claims.

Utec Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to 12 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $21,000.

Meanwhile, in Kwun Tong Magistracy, the prosecution case in relation to default contributions against Sing Pao Newspaper Management Limited has been adjourned to October 3, 2006, for an ex-parte hearing.
