MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 18 employees

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (July 25) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $190,000 on behalf of 18 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, Common Rich Technology Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of  $37,380, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other six defendants - Poon Wai Kee Engineering Company Limited, Tsoi Mau Hung, Kong Kwok On and Fong Chun Hing trading as Wing Lun Construction Engineering Co., Kwok Kwai Yung and Lee Lai Sheung trading as E-Fat Textile Co., Happywill Limited, Chan Wing Kin trading as Sun Wing Lee Transportation Company and Genesis Engineering Company Limited - did not appear at today¡¦s hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $47,880, $38,302.56, $34,293.61, $27,772.5, $10,419 and $897.74, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payments of $260, $340, $270, $190, 110, $90 and $220 as the costs in respect of the claims.

Poon Wai Kee Engineering Company Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to 16 counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $65,500.
