The nomination period for the by-election in the Tsui Wan Constituency of the Eastern District Council will run from Wednesday (July 26) until August 8.
A spokesman for the Registration and Electoral Office said a nominee must be a registered geographical constituency elector, aged 21 or above, and have ordinarily lived in Hong Kong for the three years immediately before the nomination.
"His/her nomination must be subscribed by 10 registered electors of the constituency. Each elector is allowed to subscribe to one nomination only," he said.
The nominee must personally hand in his/her completed nomination form and an election deposit of $3,000 to the Returning Officer by August 8.
"If there is more than one validly nominated candidate, a poll will be held on Sunday, September 10," the spokesman said.
The District Officer (Eastern) has been appointed as the Returning Officer for the by-election. His office is located at 11/F, Eastern Law Courts Building, 29 Tai On Street, Sai Wan Ho, Hong Kong, of which the ordinary business hours are 9am to 5pm from Monday to Friday and 9am to 12 noon on Saturdays, except public holidays.
Apart from the office of the Returning Officer, nomination forms are also available at two Registration and Electoral Offices (10/F Harbour Centre, 25 Harbour Road, Wan Chai, and 10/F Guardian House, 32 Oi Kwan Road, Wan Chai), which will extend their service hours to Saturday mornings during the nomination period. The forms can also be downloaded at www.reo.gov.hk. Enquiries can be made to the Election Hotline, 2891 1001.
All prospective candidates are advised to submit their nominations as early as possible so they will have time to rectify any mistakes in their nomination forms before the deadline.
