FEHD monitors closely reports of tainted chocolate
**************************************************

The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department said today (June 26) that it had been closely monitoring and following up seven products of Cadbury chocolate from the United Kingdom (UK) reportedly to have been contaminated.

The Centre held a meeting with the local importer of Cadbury chocolates today and learnt that the affected products had not been imported into Hong Kong.

This follows contacts with the local importer and the British Consulate for more information on Saturday (June 24) after the Food Standards Agency of UK issued a food alert of possible Salmonella contamination of Cadbury chocolates.

The seven affected products are Cadbury Dairy Milk Turkish 250g, Cadbury Dairy Milk Caramel 250g, Cadbury Dairy Milk Mint 250g, Cadbury Dairy Milk 8 chunk, Cadbury Dairy Milk 1kg, Cadbury Dairy Milk Button Easter Egg 105g and Cadbury Freddo 10p.

The Centre has also contacted major retailers in Hong Kong.  One of the seven products was believed to be available at a major supermarket chain, PARKnSHOP.

"As a precautionary measure, the Centre has urged major retailers to stop selling the products in question.  The concerned supermarket has also removed from shelf the relevant chocolate product.

"We are also following up with the supermarket regarding details of the product," a spokesman for the Centre said.

"Should members of the public have any enquiries concerning the chocolate products in question, they could call the local importer's hotline at 2791 7711," he said.
