Employer ordered to pay MPF
***************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (May 16) obtained a District Court order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions owed to two employees at around $110,000 against an employer. The MPFA today also pursued six claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $170,000 on behalf of 10 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by six employers.

The District Court today issued a judgement against an employer. The defendant, Chance King Far East Limited, was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $111,186.82, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to two employees of the defendant.

At the tribunal's hearing today, the defendants, Wang Kee Laundry Company Limited, First Rate Logistics Limited and Richfield construction Engineering Limited, did not dispute the amount claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $42,426.4, $27,756.5 and $4,550, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other three defendants, Equity Transportation Limited, Fine Projects Limited and Yang Sang Tong Beauty Company Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $49,673.72, $47,065.5 and $3,019.45, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

Both amounts awarded at the District Court and the tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $930 for the District Court case, $300, $250, $230, $340, $160 and $310 for the tribunal cases respectively as costs in respect of the claims.

First Rate Logistics Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts earlier to six counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time and was fined $18,000.
