**********************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (April 20) pursued eight claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $170,000 on behalf of 14 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, the defendant Lam Mun trading as Hip Lik Motor Repair did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered the defendant to pay the MPFA the sums of $48,986.23, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The seven defendants, including Luxery Limited trading as Apple Bar, Fine Projects Limited, Mok Leung trading as Tung Man Trading Transportation Company, Elite Care Services Limited, A&A Manufacturing Limited, Chu Shuk Wai formerly trading as Dragon Palace Sauna and Chong Yu Lung formerly trading as Super Restaurant, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of  $47,389.31, $31,188.15, $17,494.96, $14,904.92, $13,650, $2,640.5 and $928.05, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $250, $270, $110, $120, $410, $80, $130 and $130 as the costs in respect of the claims.

A&A Manufacturing Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts earlier to a count of failing to enrol its employee in an MPF scheme as required by the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Ordinance and was fined $8,000.
