Chief Executive's statement

    Following is a statement by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, today (April 17) on the death of Sir Jack Cater:

     "I am deeply saddened to learn that Sir Jack Cater, who served Hong Kong with dedication and distinction, has passed away.

     "Sir Jack was the Chief Secretary from 1978 to 1981 and before that, the founding Commissioner of ICAC. We shall always remember his solid contributions to the development of Hong Kong and his pioneering role in laying the foundation of an all-pervasive anti-corruption culture in Hong Kong. "

     "The Administration joins me in extending our deepest condolences and sympathies to his family."
