Renowned Russian pianist Evgeny Kissin to perform in HK

    Internationally renowned Russian pianist Evgeny Kissinwill give a piano recital in Hong Kong in April, presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

     Kissin has performed all over the world and received prestigious awards in many cities. In the Hong Kong performance, he will perform delightful classics of Beethoven and Chopin.

     The programme includes Beethoven's "Piano Sonata No. 3 in C, Op. 2 No. 3" and "Piano Sonata No. 26 in E-flat, Op. 81a"; Chopin's "Scherzo No. 1 in B Minor, Op. 20", "Scherzo No. 2 in B-flat Minor, Op. 31", "Scherzo No. 3 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 39" and "Scherzo No. 4 in E, Op. 54".

     Kissin entered the Moscow Gnessin School of Music when he was six, where he was a student of Anna Pavlovna Kantor, who has remained his only teacher. He came to international attention in March, 1984, when, at the age of 12, he performed Chopin's Piano Concertos in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory with the Moscow State Philharmonic under Dmitri Kitaenko.

     Since his first appearances outside Russia in 1985, he has played with leading orchestras and conductors and in recital in the world's greatest halls. Throughout the years, he has received prestigious awards and status including Musical America's youngest Instrumentalist of the Year in 1995, became the youngest awardee of the Triumph Award in 1977 for his outstanding contribution to Russia's culture, Honorary Doctorate of Music by the Manhattan School of Music in 2001, the Shostakovich Award in Moscow in 2003, as well as the 2005 Herbert von Karajan Music Prize.

     Kissin's recordings have received many awards, including the Edison Klassiek, the Diapason d'Or and the Grand Prix of La Nouvelle Academie du Disque. His latest recording released in September, 2005, included works by Scriabin, Medtner and Stravinsky's Movements from Pˆmtrouchka. It was nominated for the Best Instrumental Soloist Performance Grammy.  

     "Encore Series: Piano Recital by Evgeny Kissin" will be staged at 8pm, on April 4 at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Tickets priced at $550, $480, $360 and $200 will be available from March 2 onwards at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
