Test results of proprietary Chinese medicines
*********************************************

The Department of Health (DH) announced today (January 19) that the laboratory test on a proprietary Chinese medicine called Chi Chun Tang Chu Pai Bo Ying Dan of production batch 40001 revealed that the total bacterial count of the product was within the permitted limit.

A spokesman for the department said investigation into the product started after receiving a referral from the Macau government regarding the recall of the product manufactured by Hong Kong Chi Chun Tang Herbal Factory.

The spokesman said laboratory tests were conducted on the product in question and other related products, including batch number 50069, marketed in Hong Kong by the manufacturer.

"Laboratory tests on all samples are completed. Except for batch 50069, of which the total bacterial count was found to exceed permitted limit, all samples have microbial levels within the limit. Tests for E. Coli and Salmonella on all samples are negative."

"DH had earlier instructed the manufacturer to recall the products of batch number 50069 from the market and urged the members of the public not to buy or take the products.

"All other products are not affected by the recall," the spokesman said.
