Update on family cluster of typhoid fever
*****************************************

The stool sample of a 13-year-old boy living in Yuen Long yielded positive to typhoid fever today (December 15), bringing to three the number of confirmed cases in his family.

The boy developed fever, abdominal pain and vomiting on November 25 and was admitted to Tuen Mun Hospital on December 5.

Investigations by the Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health had earlier revealed that two of his siblings, a nine-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy, were confirmed to have typhoid fever. Another brother, also aged 10, developed similar symptoms and the results of laboratory tests are still pending.

The four children are now in a stable condition in Tuen Mun Hospital.

     The CHP's investigations are continuing.
