WTO Inaugural Session successfully held

    The Inaugural Session of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Hong Kong Ministerial Conference was successfully completed at the host venue, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, today (December 13).

     The Head of the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference Co-ordination Office, Miss Janet Wong, said the session saw the conference agenda for the rest of the week set.

     About 3,500 guests, including 2,800 delegates, 200 non-government organisation (NGO) representatives, 200 press and 300 local guests, attended.

     Miss Wong said some NGO representatives took the opportunity to express their views on the WTO and its work during the session, before withdrawing.

     Earlier today, the Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr John Tsang, who is also the Chairman of the Conference, hosted a ministerial lunch for the heads of delegations, ministers and consuls-general. The Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, hosted a ministerial dinner this evening.
