Traffic arrangements after implementation of Closed Area Order

    Police remind members of the public that a closed area has already been set up near the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, which is the venue of the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, from 6 pm yesterday (December 12) until 5 am on December 19.

     Police is now implementing the following traffic arrangements in Wan Chai area to ensure the smooth running of the Conference.

(a) Tim Mei Avenue northbound towards Lung Wui Road will be closed except access for Citic Tower carpark. Exiting traffic from carpark will make use of the re-routed section of Tim Mei Avenue to re-join Harcourt Road;

(b) Harbour Road between Convention Avenue and Fleming Road will be converted into one-way westbound only;

(c) Tim Wa Avenue northbound will lead only to Central Reclamation Phase III Site, the Fleet Arcade and PLA Central Barracks;

(d) Traffic along Performing Arts Avenue northbound will be diverted to Performing Arts Avenue southbound;

(e) Traffic along Fenwick Pier Street westbound will be diverted to Fenwick Pier Street Flyover;

(f) Traffic along Fleming Road northbound must turn right into the Convention Avenue eastbound;

(g) Traffic along Convention Avenue westbound must turn left into Fleming Road southbound;

(h) Traffic along Hung Hing Road eastbound is prohibited to turn right into Marsh Road southbound until 11.59 pm on December 18;

(i) Traffic along Wan Shing Street must turn right into Hung Hing Road eastbound until 11.59 pm on December 18; and

(j) Special traffic arrangement in Canal Road area:

     In order to ease the traffic situation at Canal Road area, traffic along Russell Street westbound must turn right into northbound Canal Road East and then onto eastbound Tang Lung Street. This will be implemented daily between 7 am and 10 pm from December 12 to December 17.

     A Police spokesman stressed that apart from those pre-arranged special traffic arrangement, ad hoc traffic control will be conducted from time to time, members of the public in particular drivers should pay attention on radio traffic bulletins and to comply with Police direction on ground.

     Police urge members of the public to make full use of public transports and avoid driving into Wan Chai North.
