WTO Closed Area Order traffic arrangements

Police today (December 12) implement special traffic arrangements in Wan Chai North to facilitate the erection of the water-filled barriers in the vicinity.

A closed area will be set up between 6 pm of December 12 and 5 am of December 19 near Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), which is the venue of the Hong Kong Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization.

In order to demarcate the closed area, the following traffic arrangements take place in the vicinity of Wan Chai North when the preparation work is in progress:

Convention Avenue (Southbound)
------------------------------

(a)   Vehicles from southbound Convention Avenue can turn into Fenwick Pier Street (westbound) and Harbour Road (eastbound, for vehicle not exceeding 7m).

Tim Wa Road (Northbound)
------------------------

(a)   Vehicles turning right to Lung Wui Road eastbound can only access to CR III Office and Fleet Arcade; and
(b)   A section of Lung Wui Road eastbound between Tim Mei Avenue and Lung King Street is converted into one-lane-two-way.

Tim Mei Avenue (Northbound)
--------------------------

(a)   No through road to Wan Chai North, except for Citic Tower.

Performance Art Avenue (Northbound)
----------------------------------

(a)   No through road except for Red Cross Headquarters.

Section of Fenwick Street between Gloucester Road and Harbour Road (Northbound)
--------------------------------------------------------

(a)   No through road to Lung Wui Road westbound.

Section of Fleming Road between Gloucester Road and Convention Avenue (Northbound)
---------------------------------------------------------

(a)   No through road to HKCEC Phase II; and
(b)   No through road to Convention Avenue westbound.

A Police spokesman stressed that apart from those pre-arranged special traffic arrangement, ad hoc traffic control will be conducted from time to time, members of the public in particular drivers should pay attention on radio traffic bulletins and to comply with Police direction on ground.

Police urge members of the public to make full use of public transports and avoid driving into Wan Chai North.
