The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose SK Lee, today (December 9) inspected the security measures and arrangements that are being finalised for next week's Hong Kong Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization.

Accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lee Ming-kwai, the Secretary for Security toured the area within the security parameters, including the Wan Chai Sports Ground and the Wan Chai Public Cargo Working Area at Hung Hing Road, which have been designated public activity areas for demonstrations during the conference period.

They also inspected the access points at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre where the conference will be held.

Before concluding the visit, they met with frontline police officers, who were conducting search and inspection at the conference venue.

The Secretary said he was pleased to see that all the security measures and arrangements were in place for the smooth running of the conference.

"I have every confidence that the police and relevant departments are capable of handling whatever happens both inside and outside the conference venue," he said.
