Customs seizes dangerous drugs (with photo)

    Customs Officers of Drug Investigation Bureau yesterday (December 8) cracked a case netting 1,800 grams of herbal cannabis, 106 tablets of Nimetazepam (also known as Erimin 5) and 30 grams of cannabis buds. The seizure could fetch about $100,000 in the market.

     A 26-year-old man, believed to be a dealer in dangerous drugs and a 23-year-old woman, were arrested. He will be charged with offences under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.  The woman has been released on Police bail.

     Hong Kong Customs believe that the seized drugs were intended for sale in discos and other entertainment venues in Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui.

     Shortly after 9.30pm yesterday, Customs officers intercepted a man in Chi Man Street, Ho Man Tin, and seized 1,275 grams of herbal cannabis, 106 tablets of Nimetazepam and 30 grams of cannabis buds from his vehicle.  

     Customs officers later seized 525 grams of herbal cannabis from his apartment.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
