Man jailed for trafficking in dangerous drugs

A 34-year-old man was sentenced to 19 years' imprisonment for trafficking in dangerous drugs in the High Court today (December 6).

The court heard that Police Narcotics Bureau (NB) conducted an anti-drug operation on September 3, 2004 and intercepted a taxi and a private car outside No.162 Pratas Street, Sham Shui Po.

A 43-year-old male passenger of the taxi was seen passing a plastic bag to the driver of the private car. The plastic bag was later found to contain about one kilogram of ¡§ICE¡¨. NB officers immediately arrested the taxi passenger and the 34-year-old male private car driver.

The two defendants were subsequently charged on September 5, 2004. The 43-year-old man was charged with three counts of trafficking in dangerous drugs and one count of manufacturing dangerous drugs while the 34-year-old man was charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs.

The 43-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced on July 7, 2005 to 14 years¡¦ imprisonment.

Meanwhile, the 34-year-old defendant was convicted after a week¡¦s trial and was sentenced today.
