"As of this month (December), 10,081 (79.6%) of the 12,659 English language teachers and 4,864 (82.4%) of the 5,902 PTH teachers have attained the Language Proficiency Requirement (LPR) through different avenues. The majority of the remaining English language and PTH teachers are making progress in attaining the LPR through these avenues," a spokesman for the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) said.

All serving English language/PTH teachers will have to meet the LPR requirements by the end of August 2006. Teachers can apply for entry to the LPAT 2006 (March), where necessary.

"Given the present progress, we expect there will be adequate English language teachers who have attained the LPR by that time. On the basis that one English language teacher is to take up the English lessons of three classes, 944 (84%) out of the 1,122 schools in total already have adequate LPR-met English language teachers. The remaining 178 schools also have plans to ensure that there are adequate LPR-met English language teachers in due course. We will continue to advise schools to consider their staff deployment early to make sure that there will be adequate LPR-met English language teachers by the end of the 2005/06 school year.

"In addition, a steady supply of 266 prospective English language teachers who will graduate from the Language Education programmes offered by the local teacher education institutes this year will ensure the availability of adequate LPR-met English language teachers for appointment by schools," the spokesman added.

HKEAA has mailed to candidates the result notices by post today. They are expected to reach candidates tomorrow (December 6). Those who do not receive the results by this Wednesday (December 7) should contact HKEAA on 2239 2771.

The Assessment Reports, which provide the chief examiners' observations on candidates' performance including their strengths and areas for improvement, will be released by mid-January 2006 through the websites of HKEAA (http://www.hkeaa.edu.hk) and EMB (http://www.emb.gov.hk) for the reference of candidates, schools and teacher education institutes. The question papers, including listening test CDs, suggested answers and Assessment Reports will also be available for sale in mid-January 2006.

Applications for rechecking of results and for rechecking-and-remarking will be accepted within seven days of the release of the results, that is, from tomorrow to  December 13.  Candidates will be informed individually of their appeals results by January 10, 2006.

Applications for entry to LPAT 2006 (March) will be accepted until December 21. Teachers and prospective teachers of English Language and PTH are welcome to apply for registration during this period.
