Transport Panel visits PRD

The following is issued on behalf of the Legislative Council Secretariat:

     At the invitation of the Financial and Economic Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, the Legislative Council Panel on Transport will undertake a duty visit to Pearl River Delta (PRD) next Monday and Tuesday (December 5 and 6) to observe the latest developments in cross-boundary transport infrastructure and exchange views with Mainland authorities on traffic and transport matters of mutual concern.

     In the light of closer ties between Hong Kong and the Mainland both economically and socially, the Panel sees the merits of enhancing co-operation and exchanges with the Mainland to foster regional co-operation to promote the flow of people and goods. The Panel seeks to take the opportunity of visiting PRD to discuss with the Mainland authorities measures to further promote the flow of people and goods within PRD for the benefits of the general public.

     During the two-day visit in Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen, the delegation will meet  officials of Guangdong Province. Members will also visit the site of a number of major cross-boundary infrastructural projects such as Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, and observe the latest development of port and airport facilities in the region.  

     The delegation will be led by Hon Lau Kong-wah, Chairman of the Panel, and the deputy leader of the delegation is Hon Andrew Cheng Kar-foo, Deputy Chairman of the Panel. Other members of the delegation include Hon Miriam Lau Kin-yee, Hon Tam Yiu-chung, Hon Li Fung-ying, Hon Tommy Cheung Yu-yan, Hon Albert Chan Wai-yip, Hon Wong Kwok-hing, Hon Jeffrey Lam Kin-fung, Hon Leung Kwok-hung and Hon Cheung Hok-ming.
