Seven employers ordered to pay 120,000 for MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (1 December) pursued seven claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $120,000 on behalf of eight employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, the five defendants, including J-Vision Workshop (International) Limited, Hung To (Hong Kong) Transportation Limited, Chan Siu Sun trading as Sunny's Kitchen, Nam Tai Security Company Limited and Tse Kai Shun, did not dispute the amounts claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $36,225, $26,652.57, $25,747.72, $4,622.32,and $4,616.04 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other two defendants, including Lap Shing Engineering Consultant Limited and Yau Fong Tsang trading as Lok Moon Shing, did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $19,005 and $7,088.9 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payments of $280, $220, $180, $180, $140, $250 and $140 as the costs in respect of the claims.

     Nam Tai Security Company Limited and Lap Shing Engineering Consultant Limited Company Limited pleaded guilty at Kwun Tong Magistracy earlier to four counts and eight counts of failing to make MPF contributions on time, and were fined $14,000 and $20,000 respectively.
