Three drug traffickers, men aged between 29 and 45, were sentenced to jail ranging from five years and four months to six years and eight months' at the Court of First Instance.
The court heard that acting on information from the Singapore Police, officers of the Narcotics Bureau (NB) of the Hong Kong Police started an investigation since April this year and mounted two separate raids on April 27.
In the first raid mounted at about 4 pm, NB officers intercepted two men aged 43 and 45 onboard a ferry heading for Shekou in China Ferry Terminal, Tsim Sha Tsui. They were each found in possession of two kilograms of Ketamine. The seizure could fetch some $944,000 in the retail market.
The two men were arrested and were each charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs. They pleaded guilty on August 26 in the Eastern Magistrates' Court and was each sentenced to five years and four months at the Court of First Instance on November 21.
The second raid was conducted at a hotel room on Nathan Road in Yau Ma Tei at about 4.15 pm. A 29-year-old man was arrested inside the room for trafficking in dangerous drugs following the seizure of four kilograms of Ketamine with a retail market value of $944,000.
Police investigations revealed that the man was a drug courier-controller who received dangerous drugs packed in parcels sent from Malaysia to Hong Kong for onward delivery to the Mainland.
The man was charged with one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs. He pleaded guilty in the Eastern Magistrates' Courts on September 30 and his sentence was meted out today (November 23) in the Court of First Instance.
