SCS writes to all colleagues

Following is the letter issued by the Secretary for the Civil Service, Mr Joseph W P Wong, to all colleagues today (November 23) on the "Paying Tribute to Outstanding Service in the Civil Service":

Dear Colleagues,

To promote a customer-oriented service culture and to encourage the pursuit of excellence in service delivery, the Civil Service Bureau has been organising an annual award scheme since 1999. Through the scheme, we give recognition to departments and teams of civil servants for their outstanding achievements in providing quality services to the public we serve. This year, we have expanded the scope of the scheme and retitled it as the "Civil Service Outstanding Service Award". On top of team and department based awards, we have introduced a partnership award to give credit to departments whose joint efforts have contributed significantly to greater citizen satisfaction.

I am pleased to note that the 2005 Civil Service Outstanding Service Award Scheme has attracted many high quality entries from 45 departments. The award presentation ceremony is scheduled to take place on December 2, 2005. To showcase the exemplary services of the award winning departments and teams, we have lined up several TV programmes.  Two half-hour episodes will be broadcast on TVB Jade at 7 pm on November 27, and December 4, 2005 respectively, featuring the proactive and innovative manner in which the award-winning departments and teams have gone about enhancing the value and quality of their services to the public.

A variety show is to be held on December 2, 2005 at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium to mark the award presentation ceremony. A condensed version of this award presentation and variety show will be broadcast on TVB Jade on Saturday, December 3, 2005 between 7 and 8pm. I am grateful to colleagues in RTHK for organising the award presentation ceremony and producing the TV programmes.

I sincerely invite you and your families to watch the television programmes in support of our civil service, and to share the joy of the award-winning departments and teams for their credit-worthy services to the community.

Mr Wong's letter has been uploaded onto the Civil Service Bureau website at http://www.csb.gov.hk.
