Police officers issued a total of 548 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 36 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7 pm today (November 15) and a total of 180 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 307 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 241 for other traffic offences.
One hundred and forty-three pedestrians and 247 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 2,456 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to October this year.
Of them, 52 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
