MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for nine employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (November 14) pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $1,000 on behalf of one employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.  In the District Court, one employer was ordered to pay a total of some $170,000 for eight employees today, who were owed MPF contributions by the employer.

     In the Small Claims Tribunal, the defendant, Omeras Asia Limited, did not appear at today's hearing.  In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $1,050, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employee's MPF account as soon as it is received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payment of $280 as the cost in respect of the claim.

     Meanwhile, the District Court today issued judgment against one employer, namely, Lapagayo (Asia Pacific) Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sums of $177,043.20, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to eight employees of the defendant.

     The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further ordered the defendant to pay $930 as the cost of the claim.
